The flat brushes allow a use similar to other square tools (nibs, calames, automatic pens), with in addition incomparable flexibility and a great smoothness of trace. They also allow calligraphy on almost all supports (stone, wood, glass, plastic, etc.) preferably using gouache or acrylic.
